Find complete thoughts
A clip has to make sense to someone who has no idea what came before it. That is a much stricter test than being interesting.
Cut before the setup
The usable clip almost always starts several seconds after the speaker began the point.
Caption it properly
Clipped audio out of context is hard to follow on mute, which is most of the audience.

The moment that landed in the room usually depended on twenty minutes of context. Those are the worst clips and the ones people pick first.
Disagreement travels
Tension, a specific number, or a strong claim stated plainly are what survive extraction. Nuance does not.
Vertical crop needs deciding
A 16:9 source cropped to 9:16 loses two thirds of the frame. Which third you keep is a real editorial choice, not an automatic one.
