Writing

Write the hook first, then the rest

Most short-form scripts are written front to back and then have an opening bolted on. That is exactly backwards, and it is why so many of them drag.

The idea

why our onboarding takes four minutes instead of forty

Script
  • 0:00 hook · "Forty minutes of setup is a choice."
  • 0:03 problem · what the other way costs you
  • 0:12 turn · what we did instead
  • 0:22 close · one specific outcome

Three steps

How it will work

  1. Give it one idea

One. A script covering three things is three videos wearing a trench coat.

  2. Hook first

The opening is written before anything else, and the body is built to deliver on it.

  3. Read it out loud

Anything you stumble over is a line a presenter will stumble over too.

What it is for

Why this one is worth having

  • Timed, not just written

A script with beats attached is one you can actually shoot or generate against.

  • Built to survive cuts

Most viewers leave early, so the structure front-loads the payoff rather than saving it.

  • One idea per video

The discipline that most improves short-form output, and the one most people skip.

FAQ

Short-form script writer, asked and answered

How long should a short-form script be?

Fifteen to sixty seconds of spoken content, which is far less text than people expect. Roughly 40 to 150 words depending on pace.

Should I script at all, or improvise?

Script the hook, improvise the rest. The opening is too important to leave to a take, and the middle sounds better when it is not read.
