Show the thing working

Most product demos fail at the same place: they explain what the product is for four seconds before they show it doing anything, and nobody is still there by then.

What you are demonstrating

a travel mug that seals when you tip it upside down

Cut around the moment
  • 0:00 · the mug, tipped, nothing spills
  • 0:03 · reaction, then the claim
  • 0:09 · one detail, then the CTA

Three steps

How it will work

  1. Name the moment

The single thing that makes someone go oh. Everything else in the video exists to frame it.

  2. Lead with it

The demo opens on the moment rather than building to it, because the build is where the audience leaves.

  3. Explain afterwards

Context lands much better once someone has already seen the thing happen. Reversing that order is the most common demo mistake.

What it is for

Why this one is worth having

  • Demo before pitch

A demo that opens on a logo is an advert. A demo that opens on the product doing its trick is content, and it gets treated as content by the feed.

  • One claim per clip

Short-form has room for exactly one idea. A demo covering four features is four videos that were stapled together and will underperform all four.

  • Built for the mute majority

Most feeds play silent first. The visual has to carry the claim on its own, with the caption as backup rather than as the delivery.

Attaching a product shot and generating a run of clips around it already works today. Rush is the fastest way to see six framings of the same demo before you commit to one.

FAQ

Product demo video maker, asked and answered

Do I need footage of my product?

A single clear photo is usually enough to work from. The more the product has to be recognised precisely, the more a real shot beats a generated approximation.

How long should a product demo be?

Under thirty seconds for a feed. If the demo genuinely needs longer, it is usually two demos rather than one long one.

Can I make several versions of one demo?

That is the recommended way to use it. The framing that works is rarely the one you would have picked, and you only find out by posting more than one.
