Cutaways that actually match

Most videos that nearly work fail for one boring reason: nothing changed on screen for long enough that the viewer's thumb got involved.

Cutaways
  • close-up · box in hands
  • overhead · desk
  • macro · texture

Three steps

How it will work

  1. Paste the line

The sentence the cutaway plays under, not a general theme.

  2. Pick the framing

Close-up, overhead, macro. The framing is what makes a cut feel deliberate.

  3. Drop it on the timeline

Cut it under the line and the pace resets exactly where attention was slipping.

What it is for

Why this one is worth having

  • Exact, not thematic

Footage that is merely related to the sentence reads as filler and costs attention instead of holding it.

  • Pace is retention

The middle of a video is where drop-off happens, and a cut to something new is the cheapest way to reset it.

  • No licence to check

Generated cutaways sidestep the stock library entirely, along with its terms.

FAQ

B-roll generator, asked and answered

What is b-roll?

Supplementary footage cut over the main shot: hands using a product, a street, a close-up of texture. In short-form it is the main tool for controlling pace.

How much b-roll does a reel need?

Enough that the frame changes before attention does. There is no rule, but a static frame for eight seconds in a thirty second video is usually where the drop-off is.

Can I use my own footage instead?

Yes, and you should where you have it. Generated cutaways are for the shots you do not have and would otherwise licence or skip.
