Metric

What is Follower conversion rate?

In one sentence

Follower conversion rate is new followers divided by profile visits. It measures the one thing view counts cannot: whether the profile someone landed on persuaded them to stay.

Explanation

Views are traffic and follows are conversion, and the profile is the landing page in between. Almost nobody treats it as one, which is why enormous effort goes into the video that earns a visit and almost none into the screen where the decision is actually made.

The number responds to a short list of things: whether the bio states what someone gets, whether the pinned posts represent the account accurately, and whether the grid looks consistent enough for a visitor to predict the next twenty posts. That prediction is what a follow is.

The common mistake

Pinning your highest-performing video. A viral outlier that misrepresents your usual output attracts followers who leave, which suppresses this metric while flattering the one above it.
