A throughput problem
Affiliate marketing on short-form is arithmetic. A small conversion rate against a small commission means the only variable that reliably moves income is how many honest recommendations you can put in front of the right people.
The maths
Production cost sets your ceiling
If a video takes two hours and earns a few pounds in commission, the model does not work regardless of how good the video is. The entire economics of affiliate short-form come down to cost per asset, which is why it is one of the categories most directly changed by cheap production rather than one where it is a nice efficiency.
The bottleneck
The click off-platform is the expensive step
Every platform would rather you stayed, which makes an outbound click the highest-friction action available. That is the real constraint on affiliate conversion, and the practical responses are to make the click the only ask in a video, to say what is behind the link rather than that there is one, and to use comment-to-DM routes which convert considerably better.
- One ask per video. Combining a click request with a follow request halves both.
- Name the destination. A generic link in bio is clicked by almost nobody.
- Reserve the ask for a minority of posts, or the account reads as a storefront.
- Comment-to-DM outperforms bio links because it keeps the viewer in the app.
The rules
Two separate disclosures, both mandatory
Affiliate relationships must be disclosed under advertising rules in most markets, prominently rather than buried in a caption nobody expands. Separately, generated video must be disclosed under platform synthetic-media rules. These are different obligations from different rulebooks and satisfying one does not satisfy the other.
The long game
Recommending everything is worth nothing
An account that has never said a product was bad is an account whose recommendations carry no information. The affiliates who last are the ones who occasionally say do not buy this, and that credibility is the actual asset rather than the volume.

FAQ
affiliate marketers on PikoReels, asked and answered
Do I have to disclose affiliate links in a video?
Yes, prominently, in most markets. A disclosure buried below a caption fold generally does not satisfy the requirement, and enforcement against creators has been active.
Do I also have to disclose AI-generated video?
Yes, separately. Affiliate disclosure and synthetic media disclosure come from different rulebooks and satisfying one does not satisfy the other.
Why is my affiliate click rate so low?
Off-platform clicks are the highest-friction action on any of these platforms. Make it the only ask in the video, name what is behind the link, and try comment-to-DM instead.
